It is time to "Explore the Library" at the Peoria Main Library! Join us for a morning of free exciting events and activities including: the Dino-Crew, James the Juggler, Deb’s Dragons, Crafting with Home Depot, the Peoria Police Department, facepainting, bounce houses, a rock climbing wall, craft projects, the Seed Library, crafts for kids, and even a huge book sale! Bring your family and friends as there is something for everyone!

Bring the family once a month to enjoy a movie at the Peoria Main Library. There will be crafts or games to do, popcorn to eat, and a chance to win a prize along with watching a film together. We hope to see you at the movies!

Meet Buddy the Elf!

Christmas is coming early to Peoria this year! Youth Works is presenting "Elf Jr. - The Musical" Nov. 9 - 18 at Peoria Arts Center and Peoria Main Library is hosting a tie-in program during opening weekend. Enjoy an elf-themed day where you can make an elf hat, snack on elf cookies, and meet-and-greet with Youth Works’ Buddy the Elf.

Interested in socialization, creative play and stimulating brain development for your little one? Come to the free play group with Miss Gabi who has classroom teaching experience as well as Early Education & Early Intervention experience. It is Guaranteed FUN!

PAWS 2 Read @ Your Peoria Libraries

PAWS 2 Read is an on-going program which allows children to read aloud to therapy dogs in order to improve reading skills. When children practice reading individually to trained therapy dogs (and their handlers) they become more confident readers, while having fun! After all, a dog will not correct them or make them feel awkward if they stumble.

STEAM - Art & History In October

Library: Peoria Main Library
Dates: Wednesdays
Time: 5 p.m. - 6 p.m.

We love the Arts! Join Miss Jennifer for a month full of hands on cultural arts fun and learning. For ages Ages 7-12.

*Registration is required by emailing:

  • Oct. 17 - New World/15th Century Spain: Columbus Basin: Learn about Christopher Columbus and the discovery of the New World. We will replicate a Spanish Lusterware basin used in the 15th Century. Spanish luster comes from a pottery style that developed in the Middle East. We will share the music, art, history, and culture of España.
  • Oct. 24 - Native American Cultures, The Acoma Pueblo Water Jar: Discover one of the oldest continually occupied settlements in North America. We will paint a replica as an example of an Acoma Pueblo water jar. Acoma Pueblo, or "sky city" in New Mexico, is on the oldest continuously occupied cities in North America. We will find New Mexico on the map and listen to music while we paint this beautiful jar.

These projects are supported by the Arizona State Library, Archives & Public Records, a division of the Secretary of State, with federal funds from the Institute of Museum and Library Services.

Super Scary Science: Exploring the Five Senses

Library: Peoria Main Library
Dates: Saturday, Oct. 27
Time: 10 a.m. - 11 a.m.

Learn about the human body by doing some fun fall experiments using your fabulous five senses. Examine your fingerprints, build a stethoscope to check if your heart is pumping blood (or you might be a vampire... EEK!), and listen to your gurgling tummy to learn how your stomach works after eating all that candy! Take a tickle test, follow your nose in a smell memory game. Listen for ghosts. Then take a blindfolded taste test if you dare… For ages Ages preschool-12. Registration not required. This event is presented by the Friends of the Peoria Public Library.

Inner G.I.R.L.

Library: Peoria Main Library
Dates: Tuesdays; Nov. 13 and Dec. 11
Time: 5 p.m. - 7 p.m.

Come join us as we explore the inner G.I.R.L. (Go-getter, Innovator, Risk-taker and Leader)! Each girl will learn something new about themselves, others and the Girl Scouts of course. They will also participate in making fun and cool crafts that relate to STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math). All girls from kindergarten to 18 years of age are invited!

Lego Club @ Your Peoria Libraries

Library: Peoria Main Library in the Activity Room
Dates: The First Tuesday of the month; Nov. 6 and Dec. 4
Time: 4 p.m. Free tickets available at 3:30 p.m.

Build with Legos at the Library. Every month there is a different challenge – let us see what you can build using Legos and your imagination. Ages 7 and younger must have an older sibling or parent with them. Free tickets will be available at 3:30 p.m.

Do you LOVE Lego’s? Come every second Saturday of the month and build with us. Build a new creation each class! Ages 6-12 welcome.

Youth Works Presents: Meet and Greet at the Library

Library: Peoria Main Library

Youth Works and the Library are collaborating this season! For every Family Friendly play that Peoria’s own Theatre Works presents, the Peoria Library will host a special themed program. There will be a meet and greet with an actor in costume, along with a themed craft and snack in the Youth Services area. The Library will host these programs at 11:00 AM either the first or the second Saturday of the play’s runtime. Please check back for dates.

Attitude of Gratitude Popup Craft

Storytimes may be on break for the week, but there is still fun going on at the Library! AND just in time for Thanksgiving! Come to the library and make an “Attitude of Gratitude” craft. Stop by the Youth Services desk and get your craft. Everything is provided (while supplies last). This program is brought to you by the Friends of the Peoria Public Library.

Winter Reading Program - Read and Win!

Pick up a game board at Youth Services and earn points for reading all throughout December. Get a free rubber duck just for signing up, and complete the 'Reading Game Board' for a prize bag filled with goodies.
