Peoria Libraries Closure

Library: Peoria Main & Sunrise Mountain Libraries
Date: Monday, May 27

The Peoria Main Library and Sunrise Mountain Library will be closed on Monday, May 27, in observance of Memorial Day. The buildings will reopen on the following Tuesday @ 9 a.m. Library materials that would have been due on May 27 will not be due until the next business day.

Summer Reading Event
Teen Movie Afternoon

Library: Sunrise Mountain Library
Dates: Tuesdays - See below for dates.
Time: 12 p.m.

Teens, cool off from the heat and watch a movie with your friends every Tuesday. Snacks and drinks are provided! All movies will be PG-13. All teens aged 12 - 17 are welcome. No registration needed.

Summer Reading Event
LGBTQ: A History in Arizona

Library: Peoria Main Library
Date: Thursday, Jun. 6
Time: 6 p.m. - 7 p.m.

In celebration of our summer reading program and to kick off pride month with a bang, The Peoria Main Library is bringing beloved Arizona historian, Marshall Shore, to share his knowledge about LGBTQ history in our wonderful state.

Paper Electronics with Robot Ambassador

Library: Sunrise Mountain Library
Date: Saturday, June 15
Time: 1 p.m. – 3 p.m.

Have a fun hands-on experience combining paper craft and electronics. Learn basic examples of circuit design to get started, then build a paper airplane, flower, tilt activated rocket, free-form light up card, or other paper craft design! Seating is limited to 40 teens, so register today!

Peoria READS! Peoria Summer Reading Program

Library: Peoria Main & Sunrise Mountain Libraries
Dates: Jun. 1 – Aug. 1

The City of Peoria's Mayor Cathy Carlat proudly presents Peoria Reads! Read at least 20 minutes a day from June 1st to August 1st for chances to win great prizes. Earn additional drawing tickets by attending special Peoria Summer events over the summer! Pick up your Peoria READS! bookmark at your local Peoria Library or at any of the Peoria READS! events. Completed bookmarks must be returned to your local Peoria Library Saturday, August 4, 2019.

LGBTQ teens and their friends are invited to come to the library once a month to talk and have fun. The program activities and topics will be constantly changing, but the atmosphere will stay the same. For more information, email: Tonya.Stuempfl@peoriaaz.gov

Manga and Comics (M.A.C.) Book Group

Library: Peoria Main Library in the Teen Scene
Dates: Mondays; Jun. 10 and Aug. 1
Time: 5 p.m.

Teens can come to the library once a month to discuss manga, comics, and anime with other graphics fans. We also play games and share stories. Tonya, the teen librarian, will summarize a couple of the manga and comic books we have in the library, then roll out the new stuff that came out this month. What are the perks? MAC Group members get to check out the new comics and manga first before they are put on the library shelves. Come try it out and have fun!

  • The M.A.C. Group will not be meeting in July.

Teen Paint Night

Library: Sunrise Mountain Library
Dates: Wednesdays; May 22 and July 24
Time: 6 p.m. - 7 p.m.

Join us at Sunrise Mountain for a fun night of painting at the library! We welcome all teens to come explore their creativity on the canvas, whether you’ve never held a brush or you’re a skilled painter. We’ll be working with canvas and acrylic paints, so wear clothes that you wouldn’t mind getting a little paint on, just in case. All supplies are provided, and space is limited to 15 teens!

Crafting Sundays: Knitting and Crocheting Hangout

Library: Sunrise Mountain Library
Dates: Sundays; Jun. 2 & 16, Jul. 7 & 21 and Aug. 5 & 18
Time: 2 p.m. - 4 p.m.

Meet fellow crochet, knitting and sewing/needlework enthusiasts! Bring your own project to start or work on. Share ideas, help, tips, and patterns along with friendly and cheerful conversation. Beginning to advanced needlecrafters are all welcome. Must be 16 years of age and older to participate.

Do you love crafting? Join us each month for our drop-in family crafts! We’ll have a variety of project stations for teens and adults! No registration required. Ages 12 and up, please!

Free Practice Driving Tests and Materials

Library: Peoria Main & Sunrise Mountain Libraries

Peoria Public Libraries in partnership with Driving-Tests.org, a company dedicated to driver safety and education, offers free Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) practice tests to library patrons. The service includes free tests specifically based on the state’s DMV materials. It is the only site of its kind to include accessibility tools that let users hear selections read aloud, make them into MP3s, translate pages into other languages, magnify text, and mask portions of the screen for greater visibility on the practice tests.
